15 Sequoia
Mathpix
is a web sofware which can be used, among other things, to quickly convert pdf files into latex source files.
Many mathematical documents are only avalaible in PDF format.
Unfortunately, reading mathematical formulae in PDFs with VoiceOver
is difficult, and even sometimes totally impossible, whatever the application used for reading PDFs
(for reading a PDF document with VoiceOver, one can use for example
Preview (see Using Preview),
or Adobe Digital Editions (see Using Adobe Digital Editions),
or TeXShop (see Using TeXShop).
By contrast, reading mathematical formulae in LaTeX source files
with VoiceOver is fully accessible.
It only requires some familiarity with LaTeX syntax.
For reading a latex source file with VoiceOver,
one can use any text editor such as
TeXShop (see Using TeXShop) or
TextEdit
(see Using TextEdit).
For using Mathpix, you need to create your Mathpix account.
The free version of Mathpix allows to convert up to 10 PDf pages per month.
The paid version of Mathpix allows to convert up to 1000 PDF pages per month.
To convert a PDF file (text or image) to a LaTeX source file with Mathpix:
copy the PDF file in the clipboard
(see Using Finder), then
open the web page of Mathpix and then press the "Home" button, then
paste the PDF file in the zone
"Paste or drag & drop a file here", then
press the button "Upload", then
After a moment, a button entitled "Export" appears, press this button, then
press the button "latex", then
A compressed zip folder with the same title as the PDF file is downloaded in
the Download folder, then
Uncompress this folder by selecting it and pressing Cmd + o, then
the uncompressed folder appears in the Download folder with another title, it contains the desired LaTeX source file with the "tex" extension.
